Congressman Polis with Scott and Stacie Gilmore
We are exhausted and exhilarated. Thursday started out with a great meeting with George McDonald from the National Park Service, we then met with Representative Jared Polis’ office, next we were onto Congresswoman DeGette’s office, then a meeting with Senator Udall’s staff. After a full day of meeting’s we still had the evening reception for the White House’s America’s Great Outdoors conference. We heard from President Obama’s Green Team: Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Administer of the Environmental Protection Agency Lisa Jackson, and Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley. What a full day! I came back to the hotel with a couple of blisters, high heels and DC’s rocky sidewalks don’t mix. The alarm was set for 4:30 a.m. because we had to get up early to stand in security for the conference where President Obama was speaking. Scott and I watched ourselves on CSAN 2 last night, the conference was rebroadcast. Enjoy the pictures from our meetings on Thursday and we’ll post the amazing pictures of President Obama soon. Scott took them at such a high resolution he can’t figure out how to download them. I think he wants to make a life-size picture of Obama! It was such an amazing and historic day, it was the first time in over 100 years, since Teddy Roosevelt, that this many enviro’s, conservation, and ag people were pulled together by the White House to talk about the environment and engaging people outdoors.
